Day 104 November 13, 2001

I'm trying to go to sleep and get up earlier because it gets dark and cold so soon I'm not making as much progress as I want to. So today I got up a little before 8. Its cold. There was a heavy frost last night, and the sun is melting it where it can. All my water jugs outside are frozen. I brought the tar paper inside with me last night so it would be easier to work with. It gets brittle in the cold. I cut and installed the remaining pieces, covering up all the sheathing on the gable wall. The tar paper helps to keep out the air and moisture that might work its way under the log siding.

That finished, I turned my attention to the prow. I need to trim the over hanging sheathing. The roofer suggested and I agree that the fascia should be on before the shingles. That means I have to trim the sheathing. I did about 1/3, and that's all I could really do. I need to rent a bucket truck to get up to the top. Also, the fascia is too heavy and long to put up by myself. A bucket truck my be a big help. I may rent on this Saturday when Darrin S and Butchie are due up.

The rest of the daylight I spent sheathing the roof. I put on my borrowed fall arrest harness (thank you JCC and Laurie) and made a conscious effort to confront my fear of hights. I took appropriate safety measures, turned up the U2, Bare Naked Ladies and Garbage CDs and climbed out there and sheathed. I felt fine. The sun was out and it was almost warm. I got 2/3 done. I hope to finish tomorrow. The harness helps me psychologically.

8 hours, sunny around 53.
