Day 155 February 14, 2002
I thought I had stumbled onto the Holy Grail. I'll explain. People who know me know that I am a music lover.
I listen to modern rock, alternative, classic rock, country and sometimes oldies. I hate jazz (three guys playing
three different songs simultaneously). My friends also know I have a low tolerance for commercials, non-witty
"witty" DJ banter, incessant weather and traffic reports and the general radio crap that insults my intelligence.
I would listen to CD's all day everyday if I could afford enough of them to play all day everyday. So after growing
bored of the local country station I searched the airwaves for something else. I found a station that was playing a
classic Clapton song and left it there. Its been a few years since I listened to classic rock I thought to myself.
For the next 8 hours or so I was blown away by the songs coming out of the box. 55 minutes of music per hour.
No banter. No traffic. Minimal weather and commercials. A mix of classic rock, some alternative versions of great
old songs, some modern rock thrown in to boot. Wow I thought, this is great. I worked and let the music flow.
Clapton. Stones. Dave Matthews. I hung drywall in the bathroom. Old U2. New U2. I put up 2 sheets, so there was
only one 10 inch long seam to tape and mud. Joe Cocker. Thin Lizzy. (I still hate drywall). I had previously primed
and painted the edges so I could slip them behind the wall and not have to mask before painting. Led Zep. Journey.
This gives a nice clean edge. The Eagles. George Thorogood. I set to installing the bathroom sink and vanity.
Mellencamp. ZZ Top. Awesome.
12 hours.
