Day 177 April 9, 2002

I got up early and sanded and put on the first of 3 coats polyurethane on the 4 posts I have cut out. I went to the hardware store to get lag bolts to attach the posts to the beams. When I got back I sanded and finished the last 2 coats of poly. The plans call for (2) 3" x 3/8" lags in each post. I will also glue them on and put a 6" lag down from inside the lower railing notch into the beam for extra strength. So that's what I did. With the first 4 posts installed I set to fitting and sanding the top and bottom rails. That part was fairly easy. Next came cutting out the remaining 4 posts. These require fancy cutting because of all the goofy angles. I think I'll do them tomorrow when I'm fresh.

11 hours, warm and wet around 65.
