Day 191 April 27, 2002
Today was a somewhat rough day. I had trouble sleeping last night and today seemed to be having trouble
with everything I chose to do. There was cursing. That Laurie is such a potty mouth! Anyway, the entire morning
I sanded mud and Laurie polyed the doors. I have a little set up for the sanding that I put together. At the Home
Depot they sell a bucket and hoses that attach your shop vacuum to the bucket which is half filled with water.
The other end is attached to the sanding block. The sanding block uses a screen instead of sandpaper and there
are grooves in the block which allow the suction from the vacuum to draw in all the dust from the sanding. The
dust clings to the water in the bucket so the filter in the vacuum doesn't clog. It works great. Since I already
had the sanding block, I made mine for $9.00 out of a 24 foot long 1 1/4" sump pump discharge hose from
Liberty Lumber and an old bucket. No dust!
When we had had enough inside, we went outside, getting several more courses of log siding up. The course
above the window had to be cut to fit around it, as well as cut to length (took me 2 tries). Before the top
of the window, each course was 2 pieces, one on each side of the window. I was trying to keep the courses
level so that when the courses became single pieces they would still line up. Fortunately the 2 pieces lined
up nicely meaning that the courses were going up level on both sides of the window.
We went out to the Diner for dinner and then to see "Life or something like it" It was
no "Mulholland Drive". Thankfully
8 hours, breezy and brisk around 60.
