Day 158 February 17, 2002

My big sister and her kids Ryan and Lauren came up for a visit. We went hiking down to the stream looking for critters and stuff. The kids liked throwing rocks in the water best.

Later we built pinewood derby cars, one for each. It was tough resisting the temptation to take over the whole project, but I let Ryan built most of the car. He did great. Possibly I shouldn't have had him debur the wheels as they ended up flat spotted, but I traded with Lauren for some new round ones. We tried out various power tools with Jen and Lauren looking on and building their own car. My sister used a belt sander, Dremel and router! Laurie cheered us on and kept Lauren busy. Lauren painted her car a pink-purple with a smiley face on the front. Could she be any more of a girl? Ryan painted his black and wrote "Predator" down the side. Boys will be boys.
