Day 198 May 4, 2002
We worked on the kitchen today!! Finally. We unpacked the wall cabinets and assembled them. They are extremely
well designed and strong. I used these cabinets in another house and was very happy with them. They are made by Mill's
Pride here in the USA and sold at Home Depot. There are quite a few parts to each cabinet but they go together easily
enough. Naturally, they are white. We followed the directions and drew level lines representing the bottoms of the
wall units and the top of the base units. Starting in the corner, the wall cabinets are plumbed, leveled and screwed
into the wall studs. The next cabinet is plumbed, leveled and screwed to the first cabinet and the wall studs. Repeat
as needed.
After we put up the wall cabinets (I didn't get the "bridge" cabinet yet because we hadn't decided
whether we were going to get a microwave for over the stove or not. I lost, we are getting one) we started on the
base cabinets. The directions tell you to find the high point of the floor and measure up from there. I think not!
My floor is level! Ha! Anyway, we started in the corner and worked around until Laurie started scratching her head and
saying she was missing a piece or something from the cabinet she was assembling. Sure enough, a part was machined wrong
(groove on the wrong side). A quick call to the factory and they shipped one out. Should be here the same time as my sink
base which wasn't in stock when we got the other cabinets.
10 hours, nice outside but we were inside anyway.
