Day 199 May 5, 2002

We finished up the T+G soffit and log siding on the gable end. It looks spectacular if I do say so myself. I caulked everything in sight (neat caulking is happy caulking. I'm fussy about the caulking, but then you already knew that didn't you?) to keep the bugs out. The wasps are already buzzing around dazed and confused because their home is gone. Tough luck.

When we finished up on the gable end we started putting the 2 courses of log siding on below the 1st course of logs. The siding covers the box beam and sill plate. It gets nailed on with 3 1/2" galvanized finish nails. Laurie loaded all the siding into Mr. Plow and drove it over to the saw horses we set up. We then proceeded to cut the pieces. They come in random lengths and many have defects in them. These defects (knots, holes, etc.) are marked by the log home company and you don't pay for the bad parts, but you do have to cut them out. Each end also needs to be cut square as the ends come raw. We got a few pieces up and I was having a tough time due to fatigue, so we packed it in.

We watched "Pearl Harbor" all 2 1/2 hours of it. I should say I watched all of it as Laurie fell asleep during the bombing. She woke up for the mushy parts though.

10 hours, nice out.
