Day 236 August 4, 2002
Soffit day. We set up a scaffolding "system" and started nailing up T+G. Damn it's hot. We made good
progress, the pneumatic nailer is a must. We put up three courses and then an aluminum vent that runs the length of
the soffit. This vent is what allows air to be drawn up into the soffits, above the insulation, along the under side
of the roof sheathing and out the vent at the peak of the roof. This cools the roof and stops condensation from
forming in the insulation. In the winter it allows the roof sheathing to stay cold so ice dams don't form and damage
the roof or allow water to leak inside the cabin. After the vent we put up another course and then ripped a piece it
finish it off. The table saw worked well for that. We finished the back of the house.
We broke down the scaffold and brought them around to the front of the house. We put up the last remaining stained
pieces and called it a day.
10 hours, one million degrees F.
