Day 252 August 20, 2002
TA-DA...
It's soooo nice to have the ceiling finished. To me, the ceiling was the last major hurdle to clear.
It was around 1300 square feet, much of it high off the ground. As usual, Kuhns bros. supplied more than
enough raw materials. I have to tell you, you couldn't ask for a better company to work with. I am very
pleased with them and will tell them so in a letter shortly.
With the ceiling finished, I decided to poly the collar ties while the scaffolding was still up. I sanded
the ties, which I never wanted to do because I didn't want them to be smooth, but there was some black marks
and dirt I couldn't get off any other way. So I donned my respirator and glasses and ear plugs and sanded
them off. I chose oil based poly for them because I wanted them to be a little darker than the ceiling so
they stand out more. I hate the stuff. It's noxious fumes will kill you even with everything open. I got
the first coat on and as soon as I could I re-coated. I didn't finish because I wanted a few hours between
the last application and me going to bed due to the fumeage.
10 hours, nice out.
