Day 274 October 8, 2002
First order of business, lightly sanding the first coat of poly. Using a fine pad on a
pole mounted sanding block I lightly went over the whole floor. The oil based poly doesn't
raise the grain of the wood as much as the water based stuff does. A light sanding was all
it needed. I bought two more gallons of satin oil based poly and applied it as before. It
took about one and a half hours to do. I was smart for this coat as I took off the screens
on the windows I opened so I could close them from outside without walking on the floor.
Yesterday it was pretty cold before I could get in to close the windows. That finishes the
floor! I worked my way out of the house and did some odds and ends outside. I finished up the
handrails in the basement, consolidated some firewood piles and did some final grading around
the foundation. A beautiful day. I left around 7:30 PM to go to a meeting about property taxes.
10 hours, sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy.
