Day 40, Monday, September 10, 2001
I'm going to lay a lot of blocks today. Or not. I get started and lay a few. It is misting and the sky
is gray. The blocks can't be wet or the mortar won't adhere. Also, it's no fun in the rain. It picks up to a
drizzle. I cover everything up and go inside to do paperwork. There is a lot of it when you are building a cabin.
Most are receipts which I hope I never tally up. It starts raining hard. Real hard. Pouring. Did I mention the
rain? I was ready to build an arc, I have the lumber you know. I take a nap. Ahhhh, I needed that. When it stops
raining, I go back out and uncover everything and throw out the mortar I had mixed. I mix a fresh batch and
start again. I get several down and it starts to rain again. Re-cover, back inside to find a weather forecast.
I find one on the web and check the Doppler radar. Two bands of showers are moving east over me. It lets up as
there is a gap between the two band of rain. I finish the batch of mortar as it starts to rain again. Band #2.
I "renap". When it stops for good I lay block until dark.
8 hours, rain.
