Day 63 Wednesday, October 3, 2001
Hi again!! Sorry to be cheerful..it's in the genes.
So today we built window bucks. Add 3" to the width, nothing to the height. WHY? Because the plans say so.
Somehow it works. Seven windows later, I'm a master with the chop saw. (I was ALREADY "not awful".)
There were cuts to be made in the logs to allow for the windows to fit. We, of course, were so eager to put the
logs up yesterday that we forgot about making these cuts BEFORE we put the logs in. So that made Billy's morning
challenging. There were a LOT of saws and a LOT of 4 letter words, but in the end, as always, he figured it out.
However, we did NOT learn from our error. We forgot to KERF (it means cut JUST A LITTLE) before 3 out of the next
5 windows. Window buck IN, window buck OUT. KERF. Repeat. (At least I got better at using the level.)
We were slow, but the window bucks are in. Of course, just as we were finishing up, I realized that I FORGOT to
tell Billy that about the LAST window. He had to cut out part of the log, just like he had to do yesterday.
This time it was my fault for not telling him because I was in charge of window info. He handled it well,
and I still have camper privileges, but I may not be allowed to use the commode for a week. We got up the rest
of course 5 and most of course 6. Dave comes tomorrow. He's no mud queen, but I bet he won't forget to tell
Billy to kerf. BYE.
