Day 99 November 8, 2001
Well the basement slab is OK. Not great, just OK. I would have preferred it to be more smooth around the edges and around the posts, but beggars can't be choosers. I spent the morning putting up a few more sheets on the roof. Then I went into town to get diesel and go to the police station. When I got there, the clerk was at lunch. I spoke with the cop who came out to my place and I asked him to talk to the ADA and see if criminal action can be taken against the well guy. He said he would talk to him on Monday. When the clerk came back from lunch I told her what I needed to do and she asked where the well guy lives. I gave her the P.O. box and town and she said I have to go file in the next town over in Thompson. So I head to Thompson, which is near Monticello. Thompson's town hall is much nicer than Fallsburg's. I filled out 2 forms and paid the nice lady $19.00. Now I guess I wait to get a court date. My prediction: he won't show up in court, I will win by default, the cops won't help me get my money from him.
I get diesel and head back to camp. I install the drains in front of the basement door and cover the pipes with 2b gravel. That finished, I continue with the backfilling, stopping briefly to repair a leaking power steering fitting on the machine. Those huge piles of dirt don't go as far as you think. I nearly finish as it gets dark. Tomorrow I hope to figure out a way to put up more sheathing. It is cool to be able to walk right up to the cabin.
8 hours, sunny and nice around 55.
