Day 98 November 7, 2001
The cement contractors arrived at 7:20 waking me up. No problem, I'm glad they are here. The cement truck arrives at 8 and they place the cement. A
team of three did the placing and then they left so it could begin curing. The lead guy came back in an hour to power trowel, but it was still too
soft. He left for another 2 hours. I used the Big Yellow One to move fill into the trench beside the foundation so I could get close enough to use a
ladder to get to the rafter tails. I moved the machine close to the house and raised up the bucket to make a nice platform. I used the ladder to get
into the bucket and I marked and cut all the rafter tails straight.
I went up to the loft and put up a few pieces of sheathing.
I only did a few because it started to get too windy and I didn't want to sail away. When the lead cement dude came back it was just right. He
power troweled for quite a while and I began backfilling. He left again and came back to finish trowel with his dad. They are the second and
third generation of the three generation outfit. Very nice guys and smart. The son has an engineering degree also. They spent a few hours
finishing up. It looks nice. I put a steel hoop into the cement so I can lock things up to it. Can't wait to see what it looks like tomorrow in
the light. It is so sweet to have a floor! With a floor and part of a roof, it is looking like a real cabin!
11 hours, sunny and breezy around 50.
