Day 97 November 6, 2001

I do what I say I'm going to do. I have lived my whole adult life this way. If I say I am going to build a fast car, I do. If I say I am going to build a cabin, I do. If I say I am going to go to school, I do. Maybe this is why it makes me crazy when people don't do what they say they are going to do. At least the contractor called to say he wasn't coming today. But yesterday he said he would come and he didn't. Makes me nuts. Anyway, I finished the outlookers.

The building inspector came and was pleased with the work done so far. He stayed a while and we chatted about different aspects of the house. He said the house deserves a special deck, not an ordinary deck. I agree. Maybe next year. Interestingly, he had never seen or even heard of the filter sock I put over the footing drain pipes. It is simply a special material that keeps the smaller particles out of the drain pipes so they can remain free flowing for a long time. He said it makes sense to him. Me too, that's why I used it.

I used the Big Yellow One to pour 2b gravel over the pipes.

After the slab is poured I can cover the gravel with the material I dug from the basement. It is going to be nice to be able to walk right up to the house and not use a plank to get in and out. I ran a string line along the rafters to mark the rafter tails so they can be cut even with each other so the fascia will be nice and straight. I ran another string across the rafters to mark the location of the first row of roof sheathing which will go up soon.

I didn't go to the police station to file today because its election day and they would probably be closed.

10.5 hours, breezy and cool around 47.
