Day 146 February 5, 2002

After I fell on the ice the other day I remembered that Laurie got me "Yak Traks" for Christmas. What the hell is that? That's what I said too. They are little rubber and steel things that you pop on your boots to give you traction on ice when you walk. They may be the best thing since sliced bread. I pop 'em on and strut around on the ice patches with my nose in the air. Huh. Take that mother nature!

Back inside, I am a sanding machine. Since Oak stair treads are $30.00 each, I'm using Fir treads which are unfinished and need to be sanded smooth to look nice. Using my Porter Cable 3x21 belt sander (insert male grunting type noises here) and a course belt I sanded the best side smooth, then rounded over the leading edge with my router (Craftsman!). Then I switch to a medium belt then to a fine paper on the finish sander.

12 hours, cold and icy
