Day 231 July 30, 2002
Up early and outside while it's still cool. I put up the first few pieces of stained T + G under the prow.
As I worked my way out toward the fascia, each board needs to be cut on an angle to match the angle of the prow.
I cut out a jig and used it to trace out the angle on each piece. I worked up and out until it got hot. Then I
went in to town to do some tradin' (obscure "Sling Blade" reference...uummmhhmmm...I reckon...right
Darrin?) Anyway, I needed a Stack Dado blade ($65. Ouch.) for my table saw to cut a profile on the window stools
I ripped to size yesterday. Then the stool will fit into a groove in the window. I bought some food and other stuff
and came back to the hill. It was still hot so I worked inside. It is really amazing how the cabin stays cool without
A/C. Even when its 95 outside it stays below 80 inside. This is due to the thermal mass effect and the R-38 insulation.
Thermal mass effect is where the logs slowly change temperature to the outside temperature, so at night the logs cool
off and during the day they remain cool for a long time, keeping the temperature comfortable inside. In the winter the
logs warm up during the day and release the stored warmth at night helping to keep the temperature inside stable.
That's the theory. Seems to work well. So I spent a few hours installing interior window trim. When it was cool
outside I finished up one side of the prow T + G.
12 hours, hot and humid around 95.
