Day 95 November 4, 2001

Laurie and I spent the day marking, cutting, drilling, notching and installing outlookers on the log gable wall. Laurie used the miter saw to notch them. Since a 2x6 is too tall to stand up in the miter saw, we made a simple jig to allow the 2x6 to be laid flat in the saw and notched to a consistent depth. Then she flips the board over and notches again. You have to notch from both sides because a round saw blade doesn't make a square notch. She finishes each notch with a hand saw and then cleans the last bit with a chisel and a "princess" hammer (small girly hammer). I make corresponding notches in the two end rafters to receive the outlooker. I use a circular saw, hand saw, chisel and hammer (manly size). We got about 2/3 of the outlookers done.

Re-creation of an actual event...

I took Laurie out for dinner and a movie (Domestic Disturbance...PU!). She questioned my motives and I explained the motive is simple...guilt. She drives up here each weekend, brings me food and clothes, works her fanny off all weekend and drives home with a car load of dirty laundry. I owe her many dinner and movie dates!

8 hours, breezy and cool.
